Hi John,
Semico Research believes the semiconductor industry is enjoying a V-shaped recovery that will take us through 2010. Semiconductor revenues will close out 2009 12% down compared to 2008; however, next year revenues should experience healthy growth as both average selling price and semiconductor units increase.
The continued rise in the unemployment rate is unfortunate and may put some constraints on consumer spending; however, unemployment is a lagging indicator. We could be well into a recovery before we see employment grow. Although consumers are being cautious about their purchases, they still see value in electronics and if we continue to provide new products and options, cell phones, netbooks and DTVs will remain on everyone’s wish list.
Recently Semico completed a study which highlights the top 5 growth markets. The report is a synopsis of data from our end use market service. Following is a link where your readers can download the study for no charge! No tricks, just a Halloween treat from Semico.

I like Stephen's commentary, but it hardly seems relevant to my blog about economic trends and numbers. Are you feeling like a disillusioned capitalist today, Lou?

Robert Heinlein once wrote; "What are the facts?... Avoid opinions, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history" - what are the facts and to how many decimal points. You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!"

This time, my blog was merely that - a collection of related facts that may have some relevance on our industry. It's not a social commentary on capitialism, wall street, the government, possible conspiracies or anything else. Just the facts.

All these numbers sound great, but Stephen Ohr provides a different perspective that might affect all of it. http://tinyurl.com/yho4np6
